Dancing in Starlight is Way More Fun than Flinging and Sitting in Shit

May 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

Shawnmaddenmusic.com is transforming before our very eyes!  So many *fantastic* comments are coming in all the time, and I’ve been posting them on the What People Say page. Thank you!  (I’m considering finding your photos and putting them on the page, too.  What do you think? – please leave a comment below.)

It’s funny; at the same time I’ve been receiving so much love and grace from people, I’ve also been the target of some really fierce criticism.  As uncomfortable as it is, I really see it as such a blessing. I know – sounds weird, doesn’t it? Let me see if I can articulate what I mean…

The essence of it is this: I’ve put myself into a HUGE frickin’ game – the game called “go out there, play my music, create events that bring people together in celebration of all that humanity is doing right now to make the world a beautiful place, and create tons of prosperity for tons of people along the way.” That’s a big game, right?

Well, it’s kind of like Donkey Kong. You know, the game from the 80’s, when you could go into an arcade and plunk a quarter into a machine for some newfangled digital fun? The one where the object was to go up the levels, climbing ladders and jumping over flames and gaps and barrels being thrown by the Kong up at the top of the screen? It’s kind of like that.

Not clear yet? I’m talking about the hurdles that must be overcome in pursuit of any dream or passion. There’s all kinds of crap that people will throw at you along the way – fear, envy, jealousy, shame, guilt… All of the stuff that keeps them from being and doing what their heart is most calling for them to be and do, they’ll throw at you.

Misery loves company, remember? It’s very difficult for someone who is sitting in a pile of shit to appreciate the one who is dancing in a fountain of starlight – and if they’re stuck enough, they’ll try to throw shit to drown out the starlight.

Fortunately, starlight is quicker than shit. ; )

Basically, what I’m trying to say here is that I’m grateful for the opportunity to create my life EXACTLY how I want it – and I’m grateful for those who have something to say about how I don’t deserve it. Why? Because they help me to see those parts of myself that are keeping me from dancing most freely in the starlight.

Now – let’s get one thing clear. I am standing for being free and clear of shit-flingers. I am grateful for the lessons that I am learning from dealing with them – and I am grateful for their fading into the distance… : )

Much love to you. Go dance in some starlight, will ya?
